National Micromobility Market Suitability Analysis

In 2019, I worked with Fehr & Peers Micromobility technical initiative to develop a national suitability map for dockless and shared micromobility services (scooter/e-bike share). At the time, there was a lot of interest in these emerging modes and the role they might play in filling gaps in existing mobility services & networks. Fehr & Peers published a national map of the resulting analysis which is still viewable here. I enjoyed working on this analysis as it brought together multiple interesting data-sets including OpenStreetMap, Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics, American Community Survey, and EPA's Smart Location Database.

Privately-operated shared dockless scooter and e-bike operators are expanding across the country. Where might they go next? 

This spatial analysis approximates the suitability of urbanized areas for shared micromobility services, considering land use and transportation factors as well as entertainment, tourism, and education destinations. Cities may consult this tool to better understand where private for-profit operators may choose to expand, and the policy implications for mobility, accessibility, and equity outcomes.
