Utah State Trail Plan
David was the Civic Analytics Lead and Architect for all the analytics developed for Utah's Statewide Trail Vision Plan. He developed the approach for the comprehensive trail significance analysis used to identify which trails identified by public stakeholders and the Utah Department of transportation would be incorporated into the Utah Trail Network (UTN). This analysis included the development a comprehensive set of metrics for trail significance that covered criteria spanning connectivity, demand, and mode shift potential. This analysis included a statewide assessment of transportation accessibility gains attributed to trails based on the testing the integration of each trail considered into a low-stress network. The destinations evaluated included changes in access to parks, state parks, existing and projected population and jobs, colleges, and other destinations across the state. These access gain scores were used directly to score every trail in the network to see whether it belongs in the UTN and informed the trail typologies developed to inform the programming and planning for each trail.
