Governors Drive Connected Vehicle Analysis

David served as task lead and lead analyst for a connected vehicle analysis that established surrogate safety measures for the Governors Drive corridor. Working with connected vehicle data on harsh braking and rapid acceleration, he developed an approach for comparing observed driver behavior against the corridor's reported crash history, including a severity-weighting scheme for both datasets and a segmentation method that attributed events and crashes to specific intersection approaches. David led the correlation and hot spot analysis that identified where risky driving behavior concentrated along the corridor, and translated those findings into a set of priority locations that carried directly into the corridor diagnosis and countermeasure selection. He also developed the mapping and cartography approach for the analysis that led to high impact and compelling visualizations of the data.
