Santa Clara Countywide VMT Evaluation Tool

David worked others on the Fehr & Peers Data Science team on the backend for the Santa Clara County VMT Evaluation tool that helps users in screening and estimating project-generated VMT for certain types of land use projects in Santa Clara County, and calculating VMT reductions associated with certain VMT-reducing measures. During the project, David developed the travel demand management and VMT reduction analysis module that used best practice literature to identify how different mitigation measures would impact VMT for different developments to identify in compliance with California’s SB 743 environmental review reforms. This python-based geoprocessing service was designed so that each VMT mitigation measure could be context sensitive to the built typology and infrastructure characteristics of development areas. It provides users a powerful quick response evaluation tool to understand how transportation and land use context can inform VMT impacts and mitigation options.
